When it comes to sharing notes and resources throughout the VCE® Exam, the debate is fierce and often a constant battle in our minds. On the one hand, you want to be the best and work your way up the ranks, leaving everyone else fends for himself or herself. On the other hand, the more you share with someone else, the more they’ll share with you. You may not even know what you’ve been missing out on until you try it. Make way for the era of sharing and caring! Here’s why you should stop thinking of the VCE® Exam as an individual race, and start working as a team.
- Sharing resources within your school will boost your school’s overall mark and as a result, will pull you up (or down) with it
Whether you know it or not, how well your school does in the VCE® Exam impacts directly on how you do in the VCE® Exam. This is all thanks to the scaling system that exists in Victoria, basically meaning that the better overall performing schools will produce the better marks. Sounds straightforward right?
Think about it like this though: imagine that at your school, the year is divided. There are a small group of people at the very top of the year who are absolutely killing it and a larger group of people at the very bottom who really haven’t tried very hard and the rest are somewhere in the middle. Even if those few people at the top are looking at scoring 99+, since the overall performance of the school was mediocre, not only will those top students struggle to achieve their deserved 99+, but everyone’s marks will be pulled down. This is why sharing resources is absolutely essential! If you’re one of those people at the top, you absolutely have to have everyone on your side and instead of working against your peers, you want to be working with everyone to bring your school’s average up. Win-win for everyone!
- Find out where the gaps in your knowledge are and let other people help you
When you share what you have with other people, it opens up a forum for constructive criticism and personal/academic development. You will have access to the knowledge of other people, which will allow you to find out where your gaps in knowledge are and thus find out ways to improve!
Filling these gaps will ensure that you avoid accidentally skipping over an entire section of work and end up leaving a 50% question blank on a final exam. Speaking from experience, this is a rather unpleasant way to discover you were wrong about note sharing! Trust me, it is the best thing you can do for yourself.
- We’re all in this together - we all could use some loving throughout this time
The VCE® Exam is a long flog and we could all use a bit of loving throughout this time. There is little point in trying to play the lone wolf and gun it to the top if you can’t enjoy it with everyone else (not to mention, if you are the only one up there, then the rest of the school will most likely pull you down thanks to scaling). We all love a bit of competition, but we forget that the real competition is not against those within your school but against every other school out there. It makes sense that you should stand in solidarity and get a Google drive or DropBox account. Now really share the love and up your VCE® Exam game!
