The phenomena of the studyblr, and why you should be doing it.

For anyone unfamiliar, the studyblr is the same as any other tumblr blog, except it’s about, well, studying.

Studying? Yes, the studyblr community is one of tumblr's fastest growing niches, where students post pictures of their work, give advice on staying focused and encourage each other not to procrastinate. These students do it to encourage themselves to keep studying hard, and working towards their dreams with a community of like minded individuals.

My studyblr has not only significantly increased my grades, it has also made me a smarter and healthier learner.

Here’s how it helped me:

1. My studyblr made me accountable.

Let’s face it, every single student procrastinates. It’s something that's so common and it can only be fixed through accountability. Yet no student wants to hand the reins to their parents, for fear of criticism, or friends because you would just end up procrastinating together.

I present: the studyblr community.

Post that you are procrastinating on your studyblr and within minutes you’ll get people commenting encouragement and offering tips on how they beat procrastination. This support powered me through my densest ‘Revolutions’ readings, and the most difficult methods problems.

2. My studyblr made me learn how to take pride in my work.

VCE ® Exam studying is not fun. I can read for 3 hours on wikipedia about the Drama uprising against the Bulgarians in Northern Greece, yet as soon as I open my Global Politics textbook my eyelids become inexplicably heavy. Opening a studyblr changed this. A key part of a studyblr is taking pictures of whatever you are studying and posting it on your blog. After a while, I began to put more effort into making my notes tidy, aware that it would soon be photographed.

My maths workbook transformed from an untidy collection of various chapters and sheets of paper to an organized, labelled and full notebook that I could take in as bound notes on tests. An extra 15 minutes drawing a beautiful diagram of the eye for psychology meant when I had the test I could remember it incredibly easily.

Of course there more to notes than just being organized or pretty, but it matters that you like your notes, and studyblrs helps out massively with that.

3. My studyblr encourage me to pursue my dreams

Studying is a long term game, isn’t it? Sure the content we study in high school is useful, but we do it more because we know the benefits it will bring us in the future, than a burning desire to learn calculus. Because it’s such a long term game, it’s easy to become disheartened looking at the distance and hard work it takes reach our goals.

This is where the studyblr community, a collection of people working hard to reach their dreams, all at different stages in life, steps up. Sometimes, getting advice from an uni student in your dream course or ranting with a group of chemistry students from around the world about how your equations just won’t balance is what you truly need as inspiration. Either way, the studyblr community provides me with the support I need to keep working away and the motivation to achieve my dreams.

Beat procrastination. Love studying. Achieve your goals. If you are looking for change in your study methods, and are willing to put in the time and effort - open a studyblr, and transform your study outlook!

Happy studying.
