There are a number of advantages to taking the UK GAMSAT® Exam. First and foremost, the best way to prepare for an exam is to practise sitting the same exam; a realistic GAMSAT practice test can help, but nothing fully replicates sitting the exam under real conditions. What better way to practise for the GAMSAT® Exam than to sit the exam twice in the same year? Regardless of how much preparation you do and how many courses you may undertake, the most valuable learning experience will be when you sit the exam under the real conditions.
Students can use the UK GAMSAT® Exam to launch and direct their preparation for the Australian GAMSAT® Exam. Most of the preparation for the Australian GAMSAT® Exam in March is done in the three to four months before. Working from a structured GAMSAT study schedule during those months can help students prioritise which areas to focus on before they commence most of their preparation.
Remember that the results for the UK GAMSAT® Exam are valid for two years, as with the Australian GAMSAT® Exam. This means that while you will not be able to use that score to apply for medical school in the same year you sit the UK GAMSAT® Exam, you can use it as part of the medical school entry requirements for applications over the next two years. For students who may have to save up some money or tie up other commitments before starting medical school, preparing for and sitting the GAMSAT® Exam over two years before you actually start medical school might give you the time you need.
Finally, the most important and obvious advantage of sitting the UK GAMSAT® Exam is that it gives you another chance at pushing up your GAMSAT® Exam score without having to wait a whole year in between. If you are taking the GAMSAT® Exam in the second last year of your degree, then you can attempt the exam three times (twice in March in consecutive years and once in September) before applying for medical school in your final year.
