Notre Dame medicine is the Doctor of Medicine at The University of Notre Dame Australia. One postgraduate program is taught from Sydney, Fremantle, and Broome. The university also publishes a school-leaver route, described in different places as an assured pathway and as priority entry. This guide explains the campuses, that route, and how entry works. Minimum scores, fees, place counts, and the dates for an intake stay on the university and GEMSAS pages.
The University of Notre Dame in Indiana is a separate institution and has its own medical school. The degree here is awarded by The University of Notre Dame Australia.
University of Notre Dame medicine is a four-year, full-time, on-campus Doctor of Medicine. The university lists the locations as Fremantle, Broome, and Sydney, and it labels the current program information for 2027. The opening statement on the Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine page describes a four-year postgraduate degree accredited by the Medical Board of Australia on the recommendation of the Australian Medical Council. A later section of the same page says the Doctor of Medicine is accredited by the Australian Medical Council, and that graduates register with the Medical Board of Australia before they practise.
Applicants who want the doctor of medicine Notre Dame teaches follow a graduate-entry path: a bachelor degree, completed or in its final year, then the four-year MD, then internship and registration. The steps around the degree are set out in how to become a doctor in Australia .
It is a Catholic university. Its international pathways page describes this as the only medical program offered by a Catholic university in Australia, aimed at doctors formed in compassion, respect, and service. The GEMSAS entries publish the university's objects in the same spirit: university education within Catholic faith and values, and a high standard of teaching, scholarship, research, professional training, and pastoral care. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Domestic general entry is through GEMSAS. The Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine page tells general domestic applicants to use that system, and it says the full rules for each year are in the GEMSAS guide. International applicants apply to the university.
UNDS medicine and UNDF medicine are the same Doctor of Medicine with a campus choice. UNDS is the Sydney campus. UNDF is the Fremantle campus. Broome is the Kimberley campus for a rural stream that applicants preference with Fremantle. Both campus names appear in the national list on Australian medical schools . Preference a campus only if you can complete the whole degree there. The current GEMSAS pages for Sydney and Fremantle say a transfer between Fremantle, Broome, and Sydney is granted only in exceptional circumstances, at the university's discretion, and applicants should expect to stay where they are offered.
The Sydney campus runs across Broadway and Darlinghurst. The School of Medicine, Sydney, then places students for the clinical years through seven clinical schools in Sydney, Melbourne, and rural New South Wales and Victoria. Notre Dame campuses and clinical schools .
Those seven schools are St Vincent's and Mater Clinical School at St Vincent's Hospital, Auburn Clinical School at Auburn Hospital, Hawkesbury Clinical School at Hawkesbury Health Service, the Melbourne Clinical School at Werribee Mercy Hospital, Lithgow Clinical School at Lithgow Hospital, Ballarat Clinical School at St John of God Hospital Ballarat, and Wagga Wagga Clinical School at Calvary Health Care Riverina. Wagga Wagga also hosts the Riverina Regional Training Hub. Allocation to a clinical school is by ballot. Preferences are considered, and a first preference is not guaranteed. Notre Dame campuses and clinical schools and Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Sydney's current GEMSAS entry asks about rurality and completion of a higher degree by research. Bonus points on that page are for rural background and for a completed research masters or doctorate. Read the Sydney page on its own. The Fremantle page does not apply to a Sydney preference. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Fremantle is the university's foundation campus, at the historic end of Fremantle, south of Perth. Broome is the Kimberley campus. Notre Dame campuses and clinical schools . UNDF medicine for a standard Fremantle place uses Perth hospitals, general practice, and community services in the third and fourth years. Students can also apply for a rural clinical placement through the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia. Notre Dame Fremantle and KCRMT on GEMSAS .
Perth's direct-entry undergraduate degree is a different program: Curtin Medicine .
The Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training is a Commonwealth-funded rural stream of the same degree. Students spend the first two years on the Broome campus and the clinical years in rural Western Australia. Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine . In GEMSAS, an applicant can select Fremantle, Broome, or both, and can set a preference order. Clinical sites in the Broome stream are regional training hubs across Western Australia, allocated with the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia. A first preference of site is not guaranteed. Notre Dame Fremantle and KCRMT on GEMSAS .
People who have lived in the Kimberley or Pilbara for at least five consecutive years, or ten years in total, can apply directly to the university for the Broome stream. Long-term residents of those regions have priority. Other rural and metropolitan applicants who want Broome lodge that preference in the Fremantle and Broome GEMSAS application and meet the rules in that year's guide. Notre Dame Fremantle and KCRMT on GEMSAS and Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine .
Fremantle's published bonuses add Western Australian residency to the rural and research-degree bonuses used in Sydney. The current page offers that residency bonus to applicants who have lived in Western Australia for a cumulative ten years, counted to the date printed in the guide. Interviewed applicants are asked for documents. If the documents are missing, the interview eligibility tied to that bonus can fall away. Notre Dame Fremantle and KCRMT on GEMSAS .
Notre Dame assured pathway medicine is the school-leaver route into this Doctor of Medicine through the university's Bachelor of Biomedical Science. It is a way into the same MD. It is not a second medical degree, and it is not a reason to split Sydney and Fremantle onto separate pages.
The university currently publishes two descriptions, and they do not say the same thing. Use the page that matches the applicant.
International school leavers are still directed to an assured pathway. The international pathways page says high-performing secondary students can apply for the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and the Doctor of Medicine together, on the Sydney campus or the Fremantle campus. It says a successful applicant secures the MD place on completing Biomedical Science, provided a semester GPA condition is maintained through the degree. The published conditions are an academic threshold, English language, the UCAT ® ANZ or the ISAT used to rank for interview, a successful interview, and no tertiary study already started, including a diploma. The page describes the route as Biomedical Science, or Biomedical Science with honours, followed by the four-year MD, and it calls the combined length about seven to eight years. It says that international assured-pathway students do not take a double undergraduate degree. There is no subject prerequisite. The page suggests science and mathematics at school. The numeric threshold and the GPA condition are on that page, and they should be read for the intake on offer rather than copied from an older brochure. Notre Dame international pathways to medicine .
Domestic students should start with the Priority Entry Pathway on the university's Pathways to Medicine page. That page reserves a defined number of MD places for graduates of Notre Dame's Bachelor of Biomedical Science, including specified double degrees with laws or commerce. It applies to students first admitted to that bachelor degree from 2024, with the first priority-entry intake in 2026–2027. Those applicants still meet the GEMSAS requirements for their intake. The page publishes extra GPA, GAMSAT ®, and Casper conditions, and it requires a first preference of Fremantle and Broome, or of Sydney. Places are reserved and then spread across campuses and fee types in a similar pattern to general places. An applicant is considered once, in the year the bachelor degree is completed or the year after, with further limits if they study elsewhere in between. Notre Dame pathways to medicine .
A third page, the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Assured Pathway), is still online. It is labelled as program information for 2025 and it carries a past application closing date. Treat that page as something to confirm with the university before relying on it for a new domestic school-leaver application. Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Assured Pathway) .
School leavers who sit the UCAT ® for this route need the exam itself explained on UCAT ® for medicine, and they need score meaning explained on UCAT ® scores . Those pages cover the test. They do not publish Notre Dame's interview threshold.
Notre Dame medicine entry requirements for domestic general entry are a qualifying bachelor degree, a GAMSAT ® result, a weighted GPA, a Casper result, any published bonuses, and an interview. The program page lists those criteria and sends applicants to the GEMSAS guide for the year's detail. The guide changes with the intake. Minimum scores, fees, dates, and place numbers belong on that guide and on the university's program page, including the table of recent interview-offer averages. An average on that table is not a minimum, and the page notes that the averages leave out applicants considered on extra criteria such as rurality and facilitated-interview eligibility. Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine .
General domestic places are open to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, Australian permanent humanitarian visa holders, and New Zealand citizens. The qualifying award is a bachelor degree in any discipline, at least Australian Qualifications Framework level 7 and three full-time-equivalent years, completed or in its final year, and within ten years of the application close. A postgraduate award does not replace a missing bachelor degree. Domestic awards come from a TEQSA-accredited institution. International awards need a comparability assessment from the Australian Department of Education. Incomplete medical studies in Australia or overseas make an applicant ineligible. The GEMSAS pages tell humanitarian visa holders in that position to contact the university. Transfer in from another medical program is not available. Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine and Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Notre Dame uses an unweighted GAMSAT ® result: an average of the three sections, with a minimum overall and a minimum in each section published for that intake. What a section score means, and how a weighted total differs from an equal-section average, is explained on GAMSAT ® scores . The GPA is weighted so that later study counts more heavily. The guide sets which years and which awards go into the calculation, and it sets the minimum. Completed research masters and doctoral degrees are not folded into that GPA. They attract bonus points when they are complete by the date in the guide. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Casper is required for the domestic GEMSAS application. It is an online situational judgement test of how an applicant responds to difficult situations. The current Sydney and Fremantle pages say an applicant without a Casper score is not considered. Registration, practice material, and the fee sit with Acuity Insights, and the test dates that count for an intake are listed on the GEMSAS school page.
The current Notre Dame pages describe interview ranking from those components, and place ranking from that combined result together with the interview. The ratios for the intake are printed on the Sydney and Fremantle GEMSAS pages. How that mix compares with other graduate-entry schools is set out on medical school entry requirements . Applicants comparing schools can also see the MD ranking .
The current GEMSAS entries also say that work experience and extracurricular activities are not added on top of the published rules. Notre Dame Fremantle and KCRMT on GEMSAS .
Both campuses award bonus points for rural background and for a completed higher degree by research. Rural background uses Modified Monash Model categories MM2 to MM7, as defined for the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training program, and GEMSAS asks for documents. The current pages say at least 28.5 percent of the university's Commonwealth-supported medical places must go to applicants of that rural background. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS . Fremantle adds the Western Australian residency bonus described above.
Applicants nominate the fee types they want. A person is not considered for a type they leave unticked. Sydney's current order of offers is Commonwealth Supported Place, then Bonded Medical Program, then full-fee. Fremantle's current order is Commonwealth Supported Place, then Bonded Medical Program. The program itself lists Commonwealth supported, domestic full-fee, and international full-fee places, so the campus guide is the check on which of those are open. Once a Commonwealth supported offer is accepted, including a bonded place, the current Sydney page says that fee category stays for the degree. A Bonded Medical Program place is a Commonwealth supported place tied to a return-of-service obligation. The obligation is published by the Department of Health, Bonded Medical Program . Dollar amounts, including student contributions and international tuition, are on the university's fees pages for the year. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Both current GEMSAS campus pages say that, with Commonwealth supported places in medicine uncapped for First Nations students from 1 January 2026, Notre Dame will offer a Commonwealth supported place to every successful Indigenous applicant, beyond the estimated place numbers on those pages. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Domestic interviewees complete a multiple mini interview delivered as a recorded, asynchronous online interview. Station design and how to prepare for that format are covered in the guide to MMIs . Notre Dame's own pages are the source for whether a given intake still uses that recorded format. The current international instructions describe a live online panel for international candidates and tell those applicants to apply directly, with GAMSAT ® or MCAT results as the admissions test. Confirm the panel, and the minima, on the international section of the program page for the intake. Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine and Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants can apply directly to Notre Dame for Sydney, Fremantle, and Broome. The pathways page sets that route's evidence, statement, curriculum vitae, interview, and academic rules, and it publishes the application rounds. Notre Dame pathways to medicine .
Facilitated interview pathways are a further route for people who met the standard entry rules and were not offered an interview in the ordinary GEMSAS rank. An interview through one of these pathways is not a place in the MD. After the interview, the applicant is ranked for an offer. The published groups include Notre Dame undergraduate graduates, graduates of the Graduate Diploma or Master of Health and Medical Sciences, Pre-Medicine Certificate graduates for Fremantle, and on-campus Australian Catholic University Bachelor of Biomedical Science graduates for Sydney. Each group has extra rules and a limited number of interviews on the pathways page. Notre Dame pathways to medicine .
The current GEMSAS pages also say offers to the Doctor of Medicine are not deferred, and that leave is not a way to defer. Final-year offers are conditional on finishing the bachelor degree by the date in the guide. The orientation date for the intake is on the same page. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
The four years are one curriculum with a campus attached. The 2027 program summary on the Doctor of Medicine page sets Year 1 as Foundations of a Medical Vocation and Year 2 as Foundations of Clinical Practice, together with an ethics course, Ethical Issues in Professional Life. Years 1 and 2 use problem-based learning in small groups and include basic and clinical sciences, communication and clinical practice, public health, and ethics. Year 3 is clinical apprenticeships, or clinical apprenticeships in a rural setting for Western Australian Rural Clinical School students. Year 4 is preparation for internship. Students also complete a translational research or audit project. Placements run in aged care, public and private hospitals, general practice, and community services. The program page says rural placements are available to domestic students only. Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine .
The international pathways page describes more than 2,000 hours of clinical placements and rural experiences across the degree. Notre Dame international pathways to medicine . Sydney students should still expect the ballot across the seven clinical schools. Fremantle students should expect Perth clinical sites, with Rural Clinical School of Western Australia as an application rather than an automatic posting. Broome students should expect rural Western Australia for the clinical years.
Graduation leads to registration with the Medical Board of Australia and then internship. Those later steps, and the choice between an undergraduate and a graduate route in Australia more broadly, stay on how to become a doctor in Australia .
The degree on this page is the Doctor of Medicine at The University of Notre Dame Australia, taught from Sydney, Fremantle, and Broome. The University of Notre Dame in Indiana is a different institution. Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine .
UNDS is the Sydney campus and UNDF is the Fremantle campus of the same Doctor of Medicine. Sydney's clinical years are allocated by ballot across seven clinical schools in Sydney, Melbourne, and rural New South Wales and Victoria. Fremantle's clinical years are in Perth, with a Rural Clinical School option, and the Broome stream keeps the first two years in the Kimberley. Transfers between these sites are exceptional. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS and Notre Dame Fremantle and KCRMT on GEMSAS .
The international pathways page still describes an assured pathway: a school leaver completes Biomedical Science at Notre Dame and holds an MD place if the published semester GPA condition is met. The domestic Pathways to Medicine page instead describes priority entry, with places reserved for eligible Biomedical Science graduates who still meet that intake's GEMSAS rules. Read the page that matches your applicant type, and check the older assured-pathway program page with the university before you rely on it. Notre Dame international pathways to medicine and Notre Dame pathways to medicine .
Domestic general entry asks for a qualifying bachelor degree, GAMSAT ®, a weighted GPA, Casper, any bonuses the guide lists, and an interview, all through GEMSAS. The minimum scores, fees, and dates for the intake are in the GEMSAS guide and on the university program page. Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine .
Domestic general entry uses the GAMSAT ®, averaged across the three sections, plus Casper . The school-leaver route uses the UCAT ® ANZ, or the ISAT for international applicants on the assured pathway. International graduate applicants can present GAMSAT ® or MCAT results under the current international instructions. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS and Notre Dame international pathways to medicine .
The current GEMSAS pages tell applicants to preference a campus only when they can stay there for the whole degree. A move between Sydney, Fremantle, and Broome is possible only in exceptional circumstances. Notre Dame Sydney on GEMSAS .
Broome is a campus of The University of Notre Dame Australia. The Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training is a rural stream of the Doctor of Medicine: two years on the Broome campus, then clinical years in rural Western Australia. In GEMSAS it is preferenced with Fremantle. Kimberley and Pilbara residents who meet the residency rule can apply directly. Notre Dame Doctor of Medicine and Notre Dame Fremantle and KCRMT on GEMSAS .
